Dundas West
ODE IS A PLACE TO STAY ON DUNDAS WEST.
Our Story
Image 1
Ode was started by a family who fell in love with a street: Dundas St. West.

We dreamt of creating a place that celebrates the best of what the neighbourhood is becoming and what it once was. So we made Ode for people like us.

That means we’re not the Hyatt, the Marriott, or any of the Four Seasons. We cater only to our guests and answer only to our mother. This business is our baby, so we are dedicated to creating the best experience for everyone who walks through our front door.

Dundas West also known as “Little Portugal” is neither Little, nor is it Portugal. It’s a neighbourhood where old world romance meets modern life: you'll find Portuguese bakeries selling juicy pastel de nata’s, hole in the wall galleries featuring local art, thrift shops where you can find the perfect ill advised chapeau, and restaurants whose cuisine can only be described as unruly.

Ode is a reflection of our neighbourhood and the people in it. No beige carpets, no black and white photos of three pebbles in a pile. Instead, modern rooms each with their own individual personality brought to life by local Toronto based artists, designers and manufacturers that we are proud to call our friends.

Staying at interesting places should be within reach of those without a corporate credit card, and leave you with money in your pocket to explore.

By stripping back the things that you don’t need (think bathroom telephones, branded water, sewing kits), we are able to provide you with more of the things you do need, at an affordable price.

Collect happy memories, not loyalty points.

THE NEIGHBOURHOOD
Dundas West is like that friend who “knows a guy” that can “get you anything, from anywhere, at any time of the night”. Whether you like secret parties masquerading as storefronts, crazy good food from all over the world, cute artisanal stores, colourful houses and streets with shiny personalities, or just a quiet day reading in the park, this is the neighbourhood for you.

How it manages all that is a hard thing to explain. Luckily, we’ve put together a guide to help you discover it all:

THE ARTIST
There’s no quicker way to fall in love with a place than to see it through the eyes of somebody who already does. That is why we commissioned Toronto artists to create a unique piece for each of our rooms, so that each experience at Ode is its own thing — a unique variation on a familiar theme. All linked together by the city we love.

WHAT WAS THE INSPIRATION BEHIND YOUR DRAWING?
On my bedroom floor I created hundreds of paintings in quick succession. I was painting as if washing the floor with ink, there was no thought or hesitation in my actions. This drawing is of a small section of one of those paintings. This slow translation of paint to graphite is to honour and witness moments of true freedom and creation.

FAQ

No, we are a boutique hostel! Think bougie hostel though, we don't do bunk beds and all of our rooms are private and have been meticulously designed and curated. But we are a small, family run operation (not the size of the ship!) and we don't have all of the amenities of a traditional hotel. If you are looking for a place with room service and valet parking, Ode may not be the spot for you.

Super simple, all you have to do is purchase a temporary street parking permit here from the city and then you can park on the designated side streets in the neighborhood. The price is $37.58 per week, $16.26 per 24 hours, or $24.39 per 48 hours, plus H.S.T. We are more than happy to help with any questions that you have!

Yes, you can rent the entire place for a wedding, divorce party, girls/guys/non-gender-specific trip, family reunion, political rally - possibilities abound! Ask us all about it.

We know fewer things in life are more important than strong wifi. Not to worry - we got you.

We don’t have in-room phones or cable TV. For your viewing pleasure, we have Smart TV's in every room so that you can use your favourite streaming platform.

Cereal is a salad. Look it up. Some of you will say, I did look it up. You are wrong. Well that’s because you looked it up in a book. Look it up in your gut next time.

Yes! We made it just for you. Sometimes we have private events up there but other than that it’s all yours.

Is water wet? Of course we do! Just let us know during your stay and we will help to arrange to store your bags after check out.

Penguins have the strongest knees in the animal kingdom and this is why they make good lovers (to other penguins).

We are located on a happening street, so this may not be the place for you if you are a light sleeper or don't enjoy the sounds of the city. We have no room service, but we have partnered with some of our favourite restaurants in the neighbourhood to offer delivery.
